The Art of Zhen, Shan, Ren - Truth, Compassion, Tolerance

At York Guildhall this weekend and continuing until Tuesday 18th,  you can view an exhibition of contemporary Chinese art.
The purpose of the event is primarily a spiritual celebration and human rights protest in support of practitioners of Falun Gong   - click here to see The Press' coverage of the story behind the exhibition.  The artists featured are: Xiaoping Chen, Dr Xiqiang Dong, Tingyin Shi, Zhengping Chen, Kathleen Gillis, Yuan Li, Daci Shen, Ruizhen Gu and Dr Kunlun Zhang.   You can read more about them here.

The Call of Innocence by Xiaoping Chen
There's a diverse range of styles from classic Chinese illustration to more western influenced images. While several wouldn't look out of place on movie posters or comic books, there are also several thematic callbacks to famous works - notably variants on a Pieta, Goya's The Third of May 1808 and Henry Wallis' Death of Chatterton.
The Art of Zhen, Shan, Ren  -   Truth, Compassion, Tolerance - has been touring Europe, Asia, the Americas and Australia since 2004.  In that time it has visited 200 cities in 40 different countries.  If you can't get down to the Guildhall by Tuesday, it next moves onto Sheffield for two weeks in July.
