Members may be interested to learn of a short residential course in Cumbria this August that looks at the History of Armour between 1100 and 1700 and is complemented by instruction on painting reflective armoured surfaces in still life.
Both sessions are delivered by Paul Walker, a tutor who has trained in illustration and traditional techniques of art production. Running at Higham Hall in Cumbria from August 1st to 3rd, this is a beginners level introduction to armour design and includes full board in this wonderful residential college set in the lake district.
The content closely follows the tutor's illustrated book of the same title and includes practical demonstrations of wearing armour, using weapons and techniques of construction, using period art to show how artists represented this subject over the years. Copies can be obtained from the Crowood Press at http://www.crowood.com/details.asp?isbn=9781847974525&t=History-of-Armour-1100-1700
