York Art Society is extremely proud to announce that Robert Brindley will be the selectors for this spring's Exhibition at the De Grey Rooms from 14th to 20th April 2014.
Robert is a member of the prestigious Royal Society of Marine Artists (R.S.M.A.). His work can be seen at the Mall Galleries, London, at their annual exhibition and with other members throughout the country, in marine related shows. He is the current Archivist for the Society.
Born in Burton-upon-Trent, Staffordshire, Robert worked in Structural Engineering as a Computer Aided Design Manager until moving to Whitby in the 1990s to became a full time painter, working in Watercolour, Oil, and Pastel. Robert's inspiration is the challenge of capturing light and atmosphere in a contemporary impressionistic style. His subjects are local landscape and coastal scenery around his home and, on painting trips further afield, the UK coast, Venice, Greece, France and India.
He is an elected member of The Fylingdales Group of Artists who have their Annual Exhibition at the Pannett Art Gallery in his home town of Whitby, where Robert also holds his own Annual Exhibition at the end of May. He also regularly demonstrates and tutors Workshops for Art Societies and painting groups throughout the country, in watercolours, oils and pastels.
His work has been featured in several publications, including The Artist, The Artist & Illustrator, Pratique des Arts, Yorkshire Life, Yorkshire Today, 'How to paint Watercolour Landscapes from Photographs' and the Dalesman
Robert's first book, entitled Painting Boats & Coastal Scenery was published by Crowood Press in August 2009 and Painting in Pastels followed in September 2010.
