The Secret Art Show 2016

It's almost time for the 2016 Secret Art Show.

For the last seven years the MS Trust has been inviting artists to submit small pieces of art that are then auctioned anonymously.  Over this time more than £100,000 has been raised to help the MS Trust continue to provide information and support services.

This year more than 470 works from 250 artists are being displayed.  All works are roughly the size of a CD * case insert (approx 13cm x 14cm) and are priced at £45.  Many of the entries are from established artists whose work sells for considerably more, so here's your chance to snap up a bargain.

On-line viewing starts tomorrow, 11th April and sales open the following week on the 18th.

Images shown above are from last year's show.  This year's entries will be unveiled shortly on the official site, so please visit and support the event.  You can also find out how to participate as an artist in future shows.

* P.S.  As I know all YAS members embrace cutting edge digital technology, I should probably remind you that CDs were the format on which we used to purchase music in the sepia-tinted days before the Internet enriched all our lives.

St Leonard's Hospice Exhibition

Pleased to announce that our recent mini exhibition at St Leonard's shop in Heworth raised over £175.00 for the Hospice.  In addition, some of our exhibitors generously donated all of their sales revenue - pushing that total up further. A total of 24 pictures and prints were sold.

St Leonard’s Hospice is an independent charity, providing specialist palliative care and support for local people with life threatening illnesses.  Their assistance is free of charge to patients and their families but not free to provide, and the charity relies heavily on the generosity of the public to help raise the £4.5 million it costs each year to run St Leonard’s Hospice.

St Leonard’s Hospice currently has 11 shops situated in and around the area served by St Leonard's Hospice. These are staffed by a paid manager and a team of volunteers.  All money raised from the shops goes directly to the care of patients and their families.

You can read about the Hospice and the care they provide here.
We hope to be back with another Exhibition at St Leonard's in January 2017.

These are now available at the Garden Centre (close to Julie's Studio at the Bull Centre) for a suggested donation "price" of £1.  Julie will also have some in her Studio throughout York Open Studios.

Portrait of Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown

2016 marks the 300th Anniversary of the birth of Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown who is credited with changing the national landscape and creating a style of garden and landscape design which has shaped people’s perception of the English Countryside.

The Embroiderers’ Guild is one of the Festival partners contributing to the celebrations with a series of unique textile events at venues across the country throughout 2016.

One of the embroiderers from the City of York branch, Roberta Harte, has created a stitched portrait of Capability Brown.
