August Self Help Group

YAS members held another very successful Self Help meeting in Bishopsthorpe last Saturday, 20th August.

Sixteen members attended this session and enjoyed painting in a relaxed and mutually supportive atmosphere.

The Self Help programme is very popular with the membership.  The regulars are already looking forward to the next meeting on Saturday 15th October and places are filling up fast.

Thanks to Lin for organising the events and for the photos used here.

203rd Exhibition Ends

Our recent 203rd Exhibition at the DeGrey Rooms, York came to a successful conclusion at the end of July.  We welcomed nearly 500 visitors across the week and sold 15 original framed works, alongside a number of prints, unframed originals and cards.

Congratulations to June Whittaker for selling all three of her entries.

The raffle winners were Christine Richardson, John Lazenby and Jan Tennant.

Thanks to the management and staff of the DeGrey Rooms who have now hosted six consecutive exhibitions for us.

The committee would also like to express their gratitude to all members who helped out with setting up, stewarding and dismantling.

We're especially indebted to long time member Ron Walker who organised the entire Exhibition at very short notice and without whom we wouldn't have had a show this year.

We're currently considering arrangements for future shows so keep watching the blog and FaceBook for the latest news.

George Smith's Garden 2016

Last weekend several York Art Society members enjoyed their annual day painting in George Smith's beautiful gardens. Here's some photographs courtesy of Lin Taylor.

'ere we go, 'ere we go, 'ere we go

Thanks as always to George for throwing open the gates and his hospitality on the day and to Lynda Baker for organising the event and baking the delicious cakes.

Pleased to report that the weather favoured us with sunshine this year.  As a change, the day ended with a tour of Sally Hawkswell's farmyard and a viewing of the collection of YAS artwork that she has compiled from many years of our exhibitions.
