The events already scheduled for September to November will not happen.
The statement from the Little Shambles, BIG ART team is reproduced below.
It is with deep regret that we are announcing the end of our art market. There will be no further Little Shambles BIG ART events. This decision has been taken out of our hands by Make it York. All the market stalls that formed our Gallery, will now be demolished to make way for a larger street food seating area in the market.
We only received notification of this development towards the end of August, and have been trying to work out a way we may be able to continue, but unfortunately, whilst a few alternative stalls have been offered, these were so limited in number, (less than half) and not even situated together. We felt this would diminish the art markets impact and our artists would not get a cohesive event to properly showcase your arts and crafts to the level they deserve.
We, as a team, are devastated at this outcome, both from the time, and professional commitment involved, to the substantial personal financial loss. We have however, through this venture, met so many great local artists and makers. It’s has been a joy to work with you all and we wish you every success and hope we may see you again sometime.
We will refund all artists who have pre-booked and paid for stalls with us for the scheduled events from September – November.
